Course Overview

People who have been affected by family violence (FV) often find difficulty in sharing their pain with others. Many hold out for the sake for their family, feeling of shame and financial reasons.  Family violence can take many forms: psychological, mental, emotional physical, financial and deliberate neglect.

This comprehensive course is designed to equip professionals, caregivers, and advocates with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively support adult victims of family violence. Through a combination of theoretical understanding, practical strategies, and interactive learning, participants will gain a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding family violence and the critical role they play in providing support and intervention.

This course is conducted via lectures, case study discussions, role-play and simulations, and group discussions.

About the Trainer

Ong Bee Yong
Bee Yong is trained to handle Family Violence cases, assess and intervene for child abuse cases, do suicide prevention (ASIST) and intervention and is able to provide WHO-psychological first aid (PFA) to the affected people post disaster and to provide PFA training as a trainer. Her area of interests include helping victims of family violence find strength to make a stand, helping parents who have suffered grief when their children choose to end their life through suicide and training.With more than 23 years of helping experience, Bee Yong has worked overseas in less developed countries and for many years in Family Service Centres in Singapore both as a principal social worker and a counsellor.During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bee Yong led her team from the Crisis Relief Alliance in serving the mental and emotional needs of healthcare workers and the migrant worker community. In recognition of her leadership and work during the pandemic, Bee Yong received an award in the “Leaders of Good” category at 2020 President’s Volunteerism and Philanthropy Awards (PVPA).
